Jamaican Spirit Tour

I made my way to Saint Elizabeth for the Joy Spence Appleton Estate Rum Tour recently. The tours run Monday to Saturday starting at 9:00am with the last tour at 3:00pm daily. 

One thing I've learned about St Elizabeth is that the parish's evening-nightlife is really lacking. If you plan on visiting the parish, start out early so you can be in the parish by 9:00am so you may visit another destination or two. By 3:00pm they start to wind down and all the adventure spots close their doors by 4:00pm, which really kinda sucks.

 On my way back home, I stopped by Murray's Fish & Jerk Hut and had a cup of Mannish Water aka Goat Head Soup (which was lacking because it was really hot salt water -___-) and Jerk Chicken with Festivals.

 Check out the Appleton Rum Tour when next you visit the island or make a road trip to St. Elizabeth with good friends / family. The rum flowed, the tour guide was engaging and the vibe of the tour was right. What can I say but I awakened my spirit on this tour.

The Sunken City

It has been a while since I've explored my beautiful island but alas that has changed! I recently visited two new [to me] Jamaican destinations. It is hard to believe that I've been a native, resident of Jamaica, all my life (exaggeration, intended) and i had never visited "The Sunken City" my post title eludes to. 

"The Sunken City" I speak of is in Port Royal (Kingston, Jamaica). A few days ago, on August 17 to be exact, i was listening to a program on the radio entitled *deepens voice to mock the program host's introduction* "This Day In History" *ends mockery*. The host said on the aforementioned date in a specific year which evades my memory now, that Port Royal was destroyed for the third time by flood.

The Original building was destroyed and this structure was built to replace it.

Side note: I love the look of Anglican and Catholic churches on the island. 

(If i must confess, this love does emanate from the soul of a Christian, who just happens to be an Anglican, and who also went to an Anglican high school.)

This year, 2017, marks the 325th anniversary of the earthquake that destroyed Port Royal. 

St. Peter's Church was not the only structure which sank in that earthquake, a large section of the town sank as well and about 2,000 persons died as a result of the earth's tremor.

                      

After passing the beautiful structure of the St. Peter's Church we headed to Fort Charles.

This is that thing they taught us about in Geography class in our local Jamaican schools. 

As the tour guide spoke, a light bulb went off in my head but soon after it was extinguished.

Giddy House was built in 1888 to store the ordnance for the Fort.

 Additional side note: I have a thing for red bricks too.

  

A Stamp In Time

I recently accompanied my dad to the Central Sorting Office located on South Camp Road and my interest in pretty little things was tickled by Jamaica's postage stamps. I might just become a philatetist. But i must say the prettiest stamps, would have to be those of the athletes & i didn't get to take pictures of those *major sad face*

What is philately?

Philately is the hobby of the collection and study of postage stamps, postmarks, stamped envelopes, postal history and just about anything related to the postal system.

So i had a Boneless Jerk Pork served with Creamed Sweet Potato and Garlic Greens courtesy of the Grog Shoppe Restaurant at Devon House (Kingston, Jamaica). The Jerk Pork was so flavourful and tender; this redux was DIVINE!!!!

Adventures of a Jamaican Pizza Connoisseur

My addiction to pizza is too real sometimes. I've been dreaming of pizza lately and am now residing in a depressive misery of my own making. So until i decide to cave in to my pizza desires [woah!!! it felt like something just released a dizzy spell or burst in my head, i kid you not! *insert worried face*... anyway, back to the post at hand], I've decided to reminisce on the pizza that was...

XX-Large Pepperoni Pizza with Pineapple for two please & thanks!

I've been wanting to sample Brick Stone Pizza from the moment i heard about the owner, Mr. Austin but unfortunately never got the chance to do so until recently. The man behind, Brick Stone Pizza was taught how to make Italian style pizzas while working in a pizzeria for many years New York and he has brought back what he has learned to Jamaica. Customer service is something many businesses in Jamaica disturbingly lacks but Mr. Austin must have gathered them all-- his personality is gold!

Brick Stone Pizza is located at 105 1/2 East Street, Downtown, Kingston which is in close proximity to The Gleaner Company. They do offer delivery service so you can give him a call at (876) 854-1384 & place your order.

Listen to me now! When i ordered the XX-Large pizza, i was expecting a small pizza similar to what is normally offered in Jamaica. But this pizza was huge, when i saw the box the pizza would be going in my heart fluttered a bit with excitement. These pizzas really are prepared on heated ((hot)) brick stones, hence the name and the flavour. I was pleasantly pleased!!

On my next visit, i'll definitely be trying Brick Stone's gourmet pizza.

Reggae Falls

Hi World!:)

This was a random, spur of the moment trip and i loved every moment of it! Two of my girls and I made the trip to St. Thomas on the hunt for Reggae Falls. This location isn't a natural waterfall like that of say, Dunn's River Falls but it is an old water dam in St. Thomas. Hence, why it is also refereed to as Damhead.

My favourite combination made for a good time:
road trip + good girlfriends + laughter + water = one amazing day!
